“Maen Bolia” is one of my favorite songs from Rabbi’s new album “Avengi Ja Nahin”…..It is again a song that is very soothing, creates an urge to hear it again and again ..
It’s just a conversation as it was in his song “totia manmotia” in his first album….. yet it’s so powerful
It depicts strong confident love………..
The song is VERY REAL………… If one has ever felt the pain of separation he’ll be able to connect to the song… It depicts what really happens. Separation affects both the gal and d guy equally but the guy tends to live in the past and the gal tries to move on…. The guy goes in depression, takes so called help of alcohol, hear sad songs…..but yet believes “SHE WILL BE BACK ONE DAY….”
And then time goes on and on………..healing every wound.

Here are the lyrics -
Kithey lukkian kithey lukkian Where’d they hide where’d they hide
Gallan si eh ankahian These words unspoken
Taenu vekhke taenu vekhke Looking at you looking at you
Ajj eh na jaan rokian Today these can’t be stopped
Shayad maen chup hi rehnda Maybe I’d have remained silent
Duron vekhda kujh na kehnda Looked at her from afar and said nothing
Par hasdi si o foka But her laughter was fake
Dindi khud nu dhokha She was but deluding herself
Maen bolia I said
Tu kardi maenu piar You love me
Maen bolia I said
Taenu charhega bukhar You will get the fever
Maen bolia I said
Taenu aundi meri yad You miss me
Maen bolia I said
Teri jibh ‘te mera suad You can still taste me on your tongue
Sirf taenu ajje pata nahi You just don’t know it yet
Sun ke meri sun ke meri On hearing me on hearing me
Kujh o hil si gai She was a bit shaken
Kujh der tan chup o rahi She was mum for a while
Fir o injh boli Then she said this
Jo kujh vi si maen chahia All that I ever coveted
Milia uho sab maen paia I have it all
Hai pura mera jahan My world is complete
Ta sunnian das kyon terian akhan Then why tell me, are your eyes empty
Maen bolia I said
Tere ‘ch khali ik thaan There’s a hollow inside of you
Na bhar sakey It can’t be filled
O koi mere siva By anyone but me
Na lagna ethey ko gulab No rose is going to grow here
Ugna bas ik kanda tikha Only a sharp thorn
Sirf tainu ajje pata nahi You just don’t know it yet
Jandan maen mel hona aukha I know a union is hard now
Chali jo tu gain eyn us paar That you’ve crossed over to the other side
Maen tan bhaven aapne bul si lavan I might as well sew my lips
Par kukdi ey meri guitar But my guitar it wails
Raatin uthh rondi ey meri guitar It wakes up at night crying
Maen kiha ajj shishey nu Told the mirror today
“Aa vakhan khan urey kihnu farhia “Show me what you got there
ey tu
Beetia so beet gia The past is past
Maenu das vira kahnu arhia ey tun” Tell me brother why are you still stuck up”
Bolia shisha “Maen ki dassan The mirror said “What can I say
Kujh farhia nahi kujh chhadia nahi Dunno what I have
Aunda maenu ik geet hijar da I know only this song of separation
O vi chhad dian tan fir gavan maen ki “What else can I sing if not this”
Maen kiha “Gall mann lai meri I said “Listen to me
Kal pichhey ajj guavenga tun” You will lose the present for the past”
Bolia shisha “Japday jiven Miror said “Seems like you haven’t
Shiv nu nahi kadey parhia ey tun Ever read Shiv
Jah taenu kujh pata nahi” Go you know nothing”
Maen bolia I said
Tu kardi maenu piar You love me
Maen bolia I said
Taenu charhega bukhar You will get the fever
Maen Bolia I said
Taenu kohu meri yad My memory will impale you
Maen Bolia I said
Teri jibh ‘te mera suad You can taste me on your tongue
Maen bolia I said
Ro ro hovengi bezaar You’ll breakdown crying
Maen bolia I said
Avengi tu haddan paar You’ll come crossing all lines
Sirf taenu ajje pata nahi You just don’t know it yet
What I like about rabbi is he’s always very positive…..in d whole song he was asking his love to come back…..but then when he faces the reality…..he asks his soul to move on……….. but then his soul says ”Jah taenu kujh pata nahi“. That was just BANG ON!!!
I just love the positive energy that he puts in his songs. Remember “Avengi Ja Nahin”……in that song though he is frustrated and asks avengi ja nahi(will u come or not) mere muh te kesan di chaan pavengi ja nahi(will u cover my face with the shade of your hair) but then when ever a para ends it says ” pavengi das avengi………..” showing the confidence that “Yes I know You’ll come back!!”
Also when I was hearing the song for the first tym I was wondering what Shiv referred to..whether it was the author shiv khera who writes motivational books or sumthing related to lord Shiva and then the line came “Jaa Taenu kujh pata nahi”…as if rabbi was saying dat to me…… J
Rabbi has depicted everything so precisely……& superbly…..
“Teri jibh ‘te mera suad” , “Raatin uthh rondi ey meri guitar”……..
5 words………and it describes everything…..Wow…..Rabbi Rocks and I look forward to more n more of his music.
